Instructions

Follow these steps to create this Banana Carob Smoothie recipe.

Blender filled with banana carob smoothie ingredients before blending.

Step 1: Place all ingredients into a blender, such as a Ninja or Nutribullet. For an ideal carob smoothie blend, ensure carob powder is evenly distributed.

Step 2: Blend on high speed until the mixture is smooth and creamy. This usually takes around 20–30 seconds, depending on your blender.

Step 3: Check the consistency. If the smoothie is too thick, add a little extra milk and blend again until your desired texture is reached. You may also need to mix any golden syrup that sticks to the cup with a spatula.

Substitutions

  • FAILSAFE – use rice milk instead of soy milk if avoiding soy and leave out banana. It still tastes great, making your smoothie distinctively carob-focused.

Variations

  • Milk – any milk you choose to include will work fine in this recipe. I think the barista soy milk pairs perfectly with the carob but anything you prefer will work wonderfully for your smoothie.
  • Golden syrup – if you don’t like golden syrup, this can be swapped for maple syrup as this also pairs well with banana and carob in your smoothie recipe.

Equipment

Your Banana Carob Smoothie is best consumed immediately, but you can store it in the fridge for up to 24 hours if you want to prep ahead. It may separate a little if made in advance.

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup frozen banana, just ripe (moderate amines)

¾ cup barista soy milk

1 tablespoon golden syrup

1 tablespoon carob powder

½ teaspoon vanilla essence (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients into a blender, such as a Ninja or Nutribullet.
  2. Blend on high speed until the mixture is smooth and creamy. This usually takes around 20–30 seconds, depending on your blender.
  3. Check the consistency. If the smoothie is too thick, add a little extra milk and blend again until your desired texture is reached. You may also need to mix any golden syrup that sticks to the cup with a spatula.
  4. Pour into a glass and enjoy!

Notes

You don’t have to freeze the banana first if you don’t want to, but I personally prefer this.

The golden syrup sinks to the bottom of the blender so you may need to give a final mix with a spatula.

RPAH Food Intolerance Handbook lists Cavendish bananas that are just ripe as moderate in amines.
